Event Recap: TFAB Indigenous Networking Event

On February 29th, CPABC co-sponsored the annual gathering of Indigenous business owners hosted by the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business (CCAB). Held at the River Rock Casino on Musqueam territory, the event aimed to celebrate and promote Indigenous excellence in entrepreneurship.
The evening began with a traditional blessing led by Elder xʷməθkʷəy̓əm Martin Sparrow, followed by an insightful address from Lana Wilhelm from event co-sponsor Paper Excellence, who emphasized the importance of supporting Indigenous leadership in business and the forestry sector.
Simone Leonard, FCPA, FCA, executive vice-president, learning and engagement at CPABC, took the stage to express CPABC's commitment to supporting Indigenous entrepreneurship and fostering economic empowerment within Indigenous communities. Leonard's speech highlighted the importance of collaboration in advancing Indigenous economic development, and reconciliation.
A panel discussion moderated by Philip Ducharme, VP, Entrepreneurship & Procurement, CCAB and featuring Rory Richards, President & CEO, Nuqo Elevated Modular, Chief Ian Campbell, Hereditary Chief of the Squamish Nation provided attendees with valuable insights and perspectives on key issues facing Indigenous entrepreneurs. Topics ranged from access to capital and resources to leveraging cultural strengths in business development.
Following the panel discussion, the networking event gave attendees an opportunity to connect, collaborate, and forge meaningful partnerships within the Indigenous business community.
CPABC staff actively engaged with participants to demonstrate the organization's commitment to working with Indigenous communities and entrepreneurs. A total of 180 entrepreneurs registered for the event, with an impressive turnout of 135 attendees, showcasing a vibrant and engaged community committed to advancing Indigenous entrepreneurship and economic empowerment.
