The CPABC Surrey/Langley/North Delta Chapter hosted the annual Member Engagement Tour (MET) event at the Northview Golf and Country Club on November 28.
Approximately 140 CPAs were in attendance to learn about the latest labour market research for accountants, connect with the other CPA and celebrate member milestones.
The MET presentation was delivered by Jamie Midgley, FCPA, FCA, Executive Vice President, Regulation & Registrar, and Kerri Wilcox, Vice President, External Affairs & Communications.
The presenters provided an update on the CPABC and BC government study examining the labour market and changing market expectations and the skills needed to succeed now and in the future. They also discussed the impact of technology on the accounting profession and the progress being made on the CPA Canada Foresight project.
In addition to the presentation, another highlight of the evening was the recognition of members who were celebrated for attaining important member milestones. Among them were Terry Fearn, CPA, CA, Ron McGregor, CPA, CGA, Hugh Rebiffe, CPA, CMA, Ivor Richardson, CPA, CGA, and Philip Snobelen, CPA, CA, all of whom marked 50 years of membership.

This fall, CPAs gathered in Abbotsford for the Fraser Valley Chapter Member Engagement Tour stop to learn the latest labour market research for CPAs, connect with their CPA network, and celebrate member milestones. The event took place over breakfast at the Quality Inn Hotel, with over 70 CPAs in attendance
After networking and breakfast, two members of CPABC’s leadership team gave the afternoon’s presentation. President and CEO Lori Mathison, FCPA, FCGA, and Executive Vice President, Corporate Services and CFO, Amy Lam, FCPA, FCA, provided an update on the CPABC and BC government study examining the impact of technology on the accounting profession, as well as changing market expectations and the skills needed to succeed now and in the future.
Member milestone celebrations rounded out the event. Each Member Engagement Tour stop acknowledges local-area members who are celebrating 10-, 25-, 50-, and 60-year membership milestones, and seven members were celebrated in Abbotsford, including Rudy Kasdorf, CPA, CMA, who marked 50 years of membership and James Goertz, CPA, CGA, and Renita Sawkins, CPA, CGA, both of whom marked 25 years of membership.

An event highlight for the Chapter, the tour stop took place over lunch at FIXX Urban Grill.
