As part of the CPA program, students must complete a mandatory profession-approved period of qualifying, relevant and progressive practical experience, which will require appropriate supervision and mentoring.
All CPA members in good standing are eligible to become CPA Mentors. By sharing unique perspectives and providing advice, CPA Mentors will support future CPAs in developing the proficiency expected of a professional accountant, with a focus on developing the enabling competencies: self-management, communication, problem-solving and decision-making, professional and ethical behaviour, and teamwork and leadership.
Members who become CPA Mentors will have the opportunity to give back and invest in the future of the profession, creating a legacy that has a lasting impact. CPA Mentors will be trained and supported throughout the mentorship program, with a time commitment of less than 15 hours per year.
Your role as a CPA mentor does not require you to help CPA students/candidates with their education, examination preparation, or job search. Instead, you can expect to:
provide future CPAs support and insight that can broaden their mindsets
give back and invest in the future of the profession
enhance your personal growth and professional development from mentoring
receive access to free CPD-eligible resources and tools.
There are three ways to get involved in the CPA mentorship program:
Volunteer to join the CPA mentoring pool
Participate in your organization’s pre-approved program, if applicable
Accept a mentor request from a future CPA.
