As an accounting clerk II with the City of Rossland, Justin has applied their leadership, strategic thinking, advocacy, and relationship-building skills to make a positive impact both in Rossland and beyond.
After obtaining the CPA designation in 2022, Justin led the early adoption of the Public Sector Accounting Board’s PS 3280 standard on asset retirement obligations, making the City of Rossland an early adopter. They subsequently shared their learnings, processes, and templates with local governments across BC to aid them in adopting PS 3280 as well. Justin’s passion for building a more robust local government finance community is also exemplified by their contributions to the Government Finance Officers Association of British Columbia Online Forum.
Equally committed to the broader community, Justin has volunteered with Nelson Pride Society since 2022, leading it through incorporation and applying their accounting skills to improve governance, granting, and sponsorship processes. These efforts have empowered the organization to expand its programming and have improved its long-term sustainability. Through their role with Rossland, Justin also provides advisory services to Rossland Youth Action Network and Rossland Food Bank, enabling both not-profits to provide essential community programs.
“As a volunteer with Nelson Pride, Justin has used their accounting skills to bring strong governance to the entity, enhanced fund development processes, and led queer-friendly events, contributing to a more inclusive Kootenay region.”
