Fred’s specialized expertise in indirect tax has made him a national and international leader at BDO Canada in Vancouver. As a recognized subject matter expert on Canadian ESG tax issues within BDO Global, he works closely with BDO member firms around the world to help their clients do business in Canada.
Fred’s interest in tax and policy keeps him at the forefront of research on new tax legislation. Shortly after obtaining his designation in 2019, and while serving as a first-year manager at BDO, he played a lead role in interpreting legislative and policy updates and shared feedback on technical issues with both CPA Canada and the Department of Finance.
Also a skilled people manager, Fred mentors CPA students at BDO and oversees the firm’s recruitment and onboarding initiatives. He further contributes to CPA recruitment by volunteering as a CPA Ambassador, working tirelessly to raise awareness of financial literacy and promote the profession to high school students, and by coaching UBC accounting students in the JDC West competition. As a director-at-large with CPABC’s Vancouver Chapter, he also organizes marquee social events for hundreds of CPAs.
“It’s difficult to think of Fred Wong without also thinking of CPA. He does an exceptional job of representing the CPA designation in the community through his numerous roles and contributions, including organizing marquee chapter social events, presenting at high schools as a CPA Ambassador, volunteering to coach accounting students, and promoting the profession as a campus recruiter.”
