Burnaby/New Westminster Chapter - Spreadsheets to Super: Volunteer Your Time at the Food Bank Event Recap
The Burnaby/New Westminster Chapter hosted its first of four volunteering sessions in the Burnaby location on Saturday, July 13. This event was a wonderful experience, bringing together CPABC members and students to support the local community. Among the participants was an international student who had just arrived in Vancouver two months prior, demonstrating the welcoming and inclusive spirit of the group! The session saw both new and repeat volunteers, some of whom had participated in past food bank volunteering events.
Interactions with the recipients of the food donations were especially heartwarming. Many expressed their gratitude with smiles and kind words, which deeply touched the volunteers. These moments of connection reinforced the importance of the work being done and the positive impact it had on the community.
After the food distribution, the volunteers assisted in cleaning up the warehouse, ensuring that everything was left in good order. Their final task was to help the food bank staff count and record the day's distribution remaining inventory, using their accounting expertise to provide precise and efficient assistance.
This event showcased the dedication of CPABC members and students to community service and highlighted the strong partnership between the CPAs and the food bank organization. It was a day filled with meaningful interactions, hard work, and a shared commitment to making a difference in the lives of those in need.
