CPABC Annual Business Case Competition 2022
CPABC’s Annual Business Case Competition showcases the talent and business acumen of post-secondary students throughout British Columbia by challenging students to apply their skills to business case analyses.
This year, 25 post-secondary teams competed in the first virtual round of the competition. Teams were given a 48-hour window in which to resolve a business case scenario, prepare their recommendations, and present their findings via video submission.
A total of eight teams from two post-secondary schools – SFU and UBC, were selected to participate in the final round of the competition.
The final round was hosted on Saturday, March 19, 2022 at the Terminal City Club in Vancouver. Teams were given a new business case and divided into separate rooms, where they were given three hours to prepare recommendations.
Each team was then required to present their findings in front of a panel of five CPA judges. Teams were assessed based on a variety of factors including presentation style, case knowledge, strategic thinking, and creativity. Teams were also judged based on how they managed a rapid-fire question period.
The 2022 CPABC Annual Business Case Competition winners were formally announced at a banquet reception later that evening which was attended by students, judges, and CPA guests.
The winning teams were as follows:
- First place: Team “DJCC Consulting” from UBC, represented by Jonathan Chan, Daniel Dian, Carrie Liu, and Cindy Wang.
- Second place: Team “Lorem Ipsum” from SFU, represented by Christina Cao, Lynette Chiang, and Jackie Liao.
- Third place: Team “Accounteam” from UBC, represented by Jashanpreet Dhaliwal, Jasleen Mehat, Sanam Sangha, and Tamara Tse.
CPABC congratulates the winning teams and thanks everyone who participated!

Throughout the course of the CPABC case competition I was not only able to develop my presentation, strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, but I had an amazing time working alongside my teammates. The dinner gala event was a great way to sum up the entire competition, and I would highly recommend participating in the next annual CPABC case competition for any students interested!

I would like to thank everyone involved in organizing the CPABC case competition for a great experience. My team and I were able to practice our critical thinking and business presentation skills through the two rounds of presentations. As this was my first case competition, I learned a lot about working together under time pressure and how to create informative business recommendations specific to different situations. Overall, the CPABC's case competition was very supportive, encouraging and a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves and learn!
